More than 70 HR professionals turned up for Martin Gabriel’s book launch cum 40^th HR sharing. It was indeed an achievement for the HR Consultant who founded and built-up HRmatters21. For almost 15 years, Martin tirelessly toiled to build this familiar well-known HR training / consultancy institute, to what it is today. With over 4,000 members from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, HRmatters21 has taken training and consulting to greater heights.

Fewer firms were profitable in 2016 compared to 2015. As the majority of firms had put in place some form of flexible and performance-based wage system that gave flexibility to adjust wages according to business conditions, total wage increase continued to moderate. The proportion of employers that gave wage increases to their employees also fell in 2016, resulting in a slightly lower proportion of employees with an increase in total wage.

Unemployment rose and vacancies trended lower. Job seekers outnumbered job openings for the first time since June 2012. Total employment growth slowed from the previous quarter and a year ago. Layoffs rose, while the rate of re-entry into employment continued to decline.

Employment rate rose further from June 2014 to June 2015, helped by the strong employment gains in the second half of 2014. Median income grew strongly over the year amid tight labour market, and there was a sustained increase in income at the median and 20th percentile over the last five years. Unemployment stayed low in June 2015, though it rose over the year for older residents aged 50 & over and non-degree holders as employment growth slowed in the first half of 2015.
